What is the Northern Interior Children First Initiative?
The Northern Interior Children First Initiative is to build upon the strengths of existing community resources in order to create an environment where children, youth and families can flourish in health education and social development.
The first six years of a a childs life are critical . What happens during this time frame will have lifelong effects on their overall health, abilities, and social competencies.  In addition to Early Childhood Initiatives, the Northern Interior Children First Initiative supports the Children and Youth with Special Needs Framework and Initiatives.
Explaining the work, or activities, of the Northern Interior Children First Initiative is often challenging. Community development by its very nature is somewhat nebulous. Nonetheless, the work of the Northern Interior Children First Initiative should be understood as core to the healthy development of children, youth and their families.

Objectives
Increased community planning and coordination. The community coming together and establishing and maintaining early childhood and children and youth with special needs community coalitions and partner ship. The entire community working to enhance opportunities for children and families.
Increased community awareness and mobilization. In coming together. Community partners learn ow to work more effectively with their collective resources to enhance opportunities and outcomes for children, youth and their families.
Improved outcomes for children and families. The Northern Interior Children First Initiative focuses on Early Childhood Development and Children and Youth with Special Needs in ways that make significant difference for children, families, service providers and the community at large
	Improved service delivery. In an effort to increase access to services for families, including hard to reach families, initiatives undertake a wide range of activities, supports and services specific to their community. Activities are based on guiding principles of celebration of culture, education, communication, evidence based and family centered.
